The Autonomous Capabilities Portfolio consists of developers, UX and UI designers, and human factors and Cognitive Systems Engineers (CSE) who work closely with our government partners to solve problems surrounding data overload, interpretation, coordination and control, and observable AI.
Our experts apply and use our CSE, or Mile Two Approach (M2A), to create research and development solutions in domains such as Human-Machine Teaming, Business Operations Support, CSE & Innovation Process Consulting.
711th HPW, DARPA, AFLCMC, AFRL/ACT3, AFRL/RH, AFRL/RY
Developed a human-machine interface in conjunction with subject matter experts and the Air Force Research Laboratory for the Autonomous Air Combat Operations program which provides pilots and ground control visibility into the AI tactical autopilot, its current state, aircraft status, and simulation testing conditions.
Mile Two’s Human Resource Apprentice (HRA) tool aids our partners in the Business Operations Support domain. HRA is a tool powered by machine learning which helps staffing specialists make faster and more accurate hiring recommendations.
Visual Composer & Extender (ViCE) tool for DARPA’s Enhancing Design for Graceful Extensibility (EDGE) program. It will enable practitioners to iterate, explore, and experiment with human-machine interfaces from envisioned operational concepts. The principles of resilience engineering and graceful extensibility have guided the tool’s design and development in preparation for live testing events with operators controlling multiple semi-autonomous UAVs for a coordinated surveillance mission. (Currently in development).
The Business Technologies Portfolio uses Mile Two’s unique approach, Agile software development processes, and human-centered software design & development to improve business processes & decision making. The Mile Two approach equips us to think well beyond technology solutions. We help organizations think about how people, technology, and work interact to drive the outcomes they want. We offer a full range of services from consulting, augmenting your team, prototyping, and production level tool development to support your work.

AFWERX, WinSupply, Ohio State, and the Wright Brothers Institute
The Joint Performance Capabilities Portfolio delivers software solutions to maximize human-AI system collaboration by fully unlocking the power of computational modeling and mixed simulations through iterative interface design for operational end users.
Our cross-functional teams use a cognitive engineering and adaptive systems philosophy to best characterize complex problems and take an agile approach to solution design, development, testing, and implementation.
supports faster planning and replanning of air travel. It allows planners to shift data perspectives relative to changing situations and compare and contract competing plans. The ability to do so improves coordination, analysis of alternatives, plan execution, and monitoring. We anticipate future versions with AI teammates to augment plan evaluation and monitoring.
visualizes outputs of computational modeling and simulation to augment Air Battle Managers (ABM) in making high-consequence targeting decisions under time pressure and data overload conditions.
gives you the ability to visually play, compare, and reflect on different courses of action constructed from models of autonomous aircraft activity.
is deployed to unclassified and classified networks to enable periodic or continuous testing of human-machine system performance. It includes validated performance indicators, virtual scenario design and deployment, and APIs for web-based GIS with data layers and COTS physiological wearables. JADE supports A/B/n testing of technologies and training for multiple contexts.
aggregates data from across the IC to monitor the distribution of forces (DOF). It brings together more information in context to improve the quality and efficiency of DOF reporting. The data is displayed in intuitive ways to allow analysts to engage in deeper sensemaking earlier and provide richer explanations during phase 1 reporting times.
aids battle station operators and security forces manage and coordinate resources in fast-paced, austere environments. Operators use Medusa to create, compare, and execute different “plays”. Visual representations of resources, threats, and other attributes help operators prioritize effectively, develop lower-risk plans, and monitor execution.
The Digital Capabilities Portfolio applies Mile Two’s unique approach which is designed to solve complex problems with technologies by applying human-centered techniques and analyzing the relationships between people, technology, and the work they perform.
Applying this concept to how transformation activities can be completed by converting unstructured data to structured data to enhance scientific research. Integrating laboratories into an environment that enhances collaboration, and supporting Digital Engineering transformation are all supported within this portfolio of work.
Air Force Research Lab, Hangar18, and the Wright Brothers Institute
The capability will allow scientists across the AFRL research lab to all have a common, accessible data environment for all forms (multi-modal, binary, etc.)
A cross-directorate lab integration pathfinder to establish network connectivity and data integration for high-priority laboratory environments, using a technical approach. Mile Two was hired to help assist Hangar18 in the following tasks:
DEFIANCE is a methodology for systematically reimagining elements of the investment planning system along digital principles (repeatable, explainable, documented).
Mile Two is supporting Wright Brothers Institute by attending workshops and thinking through and creating artifacts to help teams on updating, improve, reengineer, rethink, or transform any process or activity related to investment planning.
